As we wrapped up the second month of the Free Poker Network’s Spring Season, a determined group of 23 Mavericks, including fresh face Kathy Brooks, gathered for one of the most critical events yet—our second double-points night of the season.

With the standings tighter than ever, all eyes were on Lewis Iler. Could he defend his perch at the top, or would one of the many hungry challengers make a power move?

Game One kicked off with a familiar tale: “Go big or go home” James Ramsey lived up to his nickname—unfortunately, exiting the table first. Meanwhile, grizzled veterans George Pethers, Steve Cooper, and Jim Elwart came out swinging, putting everyone on notice that they were here to contend.

But poker is nothing if not unpredictable.

Game Two flipped the script, with Mike Baker, Michael Pjeter, and Maxx "The Stringer" Atwell each taking down their tables in impressive fashion. By the time we reached Game Three, the leaderboard was razor-closeSteve Herston and Steve Thomson held narrow leads, with five others within just two points of the top.

And then, as only poker can do, the gods shuffled the deck of fate—and every single contender stumbled in the final game.

It came down to a head-to-head showdown between the Steves. With identical records of two second-place finishes, the night's winner would be determined by whoever claimed the final table.

What followed was a battle of attrition. Chips flew back and forth in a relentless duel, but in the end, Steve Thomson emerged victorious, clinching his second nightly win in the last three weeks. A huge congratulations to Thomson, who’s clearly heating up at just the right time!

Steve Herston secured a hard-fought second-place finish, while the ever-consistent Jim Elwart rounded out the podium in third.

As we charge into the final month of the Spring Season, Lewis Iler remains in the overall lead, but the pressure is building. Herston, Elwart, Pethers, and Thomson now fill out the top five, each with their eyes on the title.

With one last double-points finale still on the horizon, the season is far from decided. Anyone in the top ranks could still steal the crown.

Until next week, Mavericks—play smart, stay safe, and as always, we’ll see you on the felts!
