Spring Heats Up as Mavericks Make Their Move in the Free Poker Network

With the Free Poker Network's Spring Season hitting the halfway mark, a determined group of Mavericks from across Michigan gathered to sharpen their game and climb the ever-intense points leaderboard. Despite the temptations of Michigan’s beautiful late-spring weather, 20 players drew seats and settled in for what would be a thrilling night of action-packed poker.
From the very first hand, the pace was electric. Lewis Iler and Steve Cooper, both no strangers to the leaderboard, showed their veteran prowess by taking down their respective tables in Game One. But poker, as always, is a game of highs and lows—both Iler and Cooper were knocked out early in Game Two, opening the door for others to shine.
Rising to the occasion were Jim Elwart and Steve Thomson, each capitalizing on the opportunity with strong wins in Game Two. The consistency across the field set the stage for an exciting shake-up in the standings. Going into Game Three, Amber Soper emerged at the top, riding the momentum of two solid showings, with Drew Bovee trailing closely by just a single point and six more players within three points of the lead. The race was officially on.
As the final game unfolded, Mike Soper surged ahead with a commanding table win in Game Three, narrowly missing the night’s top five. But it was Steve Thomson who sealed the deal, taking his second table of the night and securing his first nightly win—punching his ticket to the Tournament of Champions in October. Congratulations, Steve!
Meanwhile, steady performances from Lewis Iler and Amber Soper kept them in the top three for the night, claiming second and third place finishes, respectively.
As we hit the midpoint of the season, Lewis Iler continues to lead the overall standings with a 200-point cushion, followed by Steve Herston, Amanda Dudek, Mike Nass, and Steve Cooper rounding out the current top five.
But with two double-point nights still looming on the calendar, the race for the top remains wide open. Anything can happen—and probably will.
Until next week, Mavericks—keep your game sharp, your chips stacked, and as always, we’ll see you on the felts!
