Double Points, Double Drama: Nass Claims the Night in a Photo Finish

With the first Double Points Night of the Free Poker Network’s Summer Season on tap, twenty-three Mavericks rolled into action at full throttle — including fresh faces Autumn Mohr and Dennis Beck, eager to leave their mark. With high stakes and even higher tension, it was clear from the first shuffle that this was going to be another epic evening of No-Limit Hold’em.
As Game One unfolded, familiar names rose to the top. Mike Nass, Candace Sutter, and Ashton Groth each took down their tables, collecting early wins and planting their flags atop the points leaderboard.
Game Two offered no let-up. Steve Thomson, Mike Baker, and Scott Sutter each emerged victorious from their tables, setting the stage for a razor-close finish. With only one game to go, Steve Thomson led the pack by a single point, with Jim Elwart right on his heels — and nine players within striking distance, just three points back. The mission was clear: win your table and take the crown.
But as so often happens under the bright lights of pressure, the front-runners began to falter.
Lewis Iler hit the rail first. Rick Hoag and Jim Elwart weren’t far behind. Thomson looked like he might survive the chaos — until one critical misstep ended his run.
Suddenly, it was anyone’s game.
Mike Nass, chasing his second strong finish of the night, bowed out with a third-place showing at his table. Meanwhile, Candace Sutter, ever the tenacious competitor, dug deep and battled her way to a Game Three table win.
When the final points were tallied, it was a tie at the top between Nass and Sutter. And for the second week in a row, the winner would be determined by the tie-breaker.
Both had won their Game One tables. But Sutter’s early exit in Game Two tipped the scale. The victory — by the slimmest of margins — went to Mike Nass.
🏆 Mike Nass takes the win with a steady, consistent performance.
🥈 Candace Sutter claims second with grit and a strong finish.
🥉 Steve Thomson rounds out the podium, thanks to two solid early rounds.
And the double points did what double points do — shaking up the Summer Season standings in a big way.
