Bovee Edges Out Pinson in Tight Midseason Battle

As summer edges toward its close, with school bells ready to ring and vacations tempting many away, 18 stalwart Mavericks still made their way to The Mayfield Tavern — determined to battle for every last point in a season where the standings couldn’t be closer.
With the leaderboard so tight, every chip mattered.
Game One started much like last week’s finale — Mike Pjeter dominated his table, while Jason Owen locked down his own.
In Game Two, the momentum shifted. George Pethers and James Ramsey claimed wins, shaking up the standings and tightening the race. On the strength of two strong games, Pjeter, Pethers, and Drew Bovee found themselves tied for the lead heading into the final round — but with five Mavericks lurking within striking distance, the night was far from decided.
Game Three quickly became a pressure cooker. Pjeter was the first of the leaders to blink, going out second at his table. Pethers followed soon after, leaving the spotlight on Bovee — could he hold on, or would a late surge from the chasing pack steal it away?
Bovee held his ground for a bit longer but fell in fifth place overall, leaving the door slightly ajar. Ramsey, needing just a little more to overtake the leaders, bowed out one spot higher, falling just short.
Then came Dale Pinson, who did everything in his power to claim the crown — winning his Game Three table in commanding fashion. When the chips were counted, it was a tie at the top between Pinson and Bovee.
The tiebreaker, however, belonged to Bovee, giving him the victory for the night.
🏆 1st – Drew Bovee — steady play and key hands at the right time.
🥈 2nd – Dale Pinson — a hard-charging finish and a table win.
🥉 3rd – James Ramsey — just one point shy of the leaders.
The result shook up the Summer Season leaderboard in a big way:
-
Drew Bovee – new season leader
-
Jim Elwart – ever consistent
-
Mike Nass – slips to third
-
Mike Soper
-
Mike Pjeter
With the Summer Season now at the midway mark, six weeks remain — including two double points nights — and the championship is still anyone’s to win.
Buckle up, Mavericks. The run to the finish is about to get wild.
We’ll see you on the felts!
